Getting ready to head into town - need a zip from John Lewis. I looked out into the garden after the rain - the sun was shining on the lush spring green. A blackbird took a worm into the honeysuckle. Maybe she has a nest in there. Looked at my eye in the compact mirror and noticed a couple of grey hairs amidst the brunette tied up in my towel turban. Got a massively strong recollection of mother.
We would catch the 29 to Camden Town and chage onto a C2 which takes you down Albany Road, passes over Euston Road and brings you to Regent Street stopping at Oxford Circus - back route to town dropping off for shopping. It would always include a visit to Ponti's on the corner opposite BHS and the London Fashion College. We'd share a cream cheese and tomato sandwich and an eclair. Only ever half each, never one each (not sure why). Chance for a cup of tea for mum (massive tea drinker) or a milky coffee. Then we'd go to the shops with her mother's money (which is what she called child benefit - don't know why).
I think she and my sister would do the same. Mother and daughter time.

In response to both your Friday quests, may I recommend the blog 'Spitalfields Life' and especially the entry for 7 March (http://spitalfieldslife.com/2012/03/07/at-london-trimmings/). The blog has already something of a cult following and the 'Gentle Author' has recently published a rather nice hardback book of early entries. Worth a butcher's...
Not only have I seen that book on sale and not realised it was a blogger but I really need to go to London Trimmings - fantastic! I'm adding it to the blog roll.
Thanks for the heads up
Hi Harriet, been catching up on your blog and am enjoying the variety of subjects. That ocean photo is stunning.
Reading about your template problems got me thinking about Echo. I see you switched to Blogger commenting are you happy with it? Did you lose any of your past comments when you switched? Before you went with Blogger did you look at DISQUS? I see they let you import comments from ECHO/JS-Kit. I'm worried that if I switch to Blogger I will lose most of my comments and I would like to keep them if at all possible.
D'you know I got so p'd off because of the sudden change they made to the way the comments box showed on the main page that I didnt even think about saving all the comments. I will definitely have lost those from before blogger started a commenting system but since that began all comments even on echo seem to be on blogger as well. I don't know why. So I didn't loose as many as I could have.
Since everything has been upgraded so often since I began I have decided to try to keep everything in one app so that it transfers more easily. It's not possible to edit the templates with HTML anymore and my programming knowledge is limited! I've lost some good bits but it's simpler. And I'm over the initial frustration and anger now!
I'm leaning toward Blogger, too, and for the reason you gave. Losing comments is not that tragic and I have until October 2012 to decide what to do. I'm thinking of waiting until then just because I know it will annoy someone over there at Echo. I don't like their, "We're done with you so buzz off," attitude.
Good point! I didn't think of it like that. Did find the other day that they ad taken an annual subscription from me (after I'd stopped using it) but emailing them got them to return it straight away.
Love this memory. I've not been around to read your vignettes and images (or other favourite bloggers), I always enjoyed them. On a personal mission to make computer time, which is less than it was before, more "productive" spending less time with the time-wasters. Wish me luck.
