I sat down on the first day and watched six hours of cycling. I'm thinking what am I doing, I don't even like cycling. And it's carried on pretty much like that. I've come into work for a rest to be honest with you. I'm watching sports I have no interest in, never had. I mean archery. What am I doing watching archery?
How much of the beach volleyball have you watched? *Nudge nudge*

ReplyDeleteIn 2000 we were blessed with the Sydney Olympics....during this time I took the opportunity to have a holiday in Bali, Indonesia. A cunning escape I thought. Alas wide screen TV in the lobby of the hotel....Ozzie Olympics....sigh...
I've swung bak and forth with it - very keen when we won it, very p'd off when I didn't get any tickets and after the bad press about transport in the lead up. But it's quite a jolly atmosphere here now even though it's really busy with ditzy tourists!

ReplyDeleteTelevision coverage in the United States is atrociously bad. Most events are shown several hours after they actually occur, in order to get the largest audiences while accounting for time-zone differences, something that may have worked in past decades but is pointless now that everyone can see up-to-the-minute results online.
ReplyDeleteGetting a live stream requires logging in with a cable television account number, which doesn't help the millions of people (a constantly growing number) who've dropped cable because they get all their entertainment online. And don't even get me started on how the coverage is chock-full of inspiring personal stories, how seemingly every athlete overcame all sorts of adversity to participate.
We have big screens all over the city (frequently showing only beach volleyball when I'd rather see anything else). I can check the BBC feed during work which keeps me in the loop. And then almost constant replaying of the days action in the evening. Just missing out on some of the international achievements if GB has won a medal of any colour! Not biased in the slightest! ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy husband is a big beach volleyball fan. The other day I walked into the living room to find him watching the beginning of a women's match. I came in just as the announcer on the TV said, "In white- the United States. In red -Switzerland."
ReplyDeleteI said, "They would be more honest if they just said, 'Half naked- the United States. Almost completely naked-Switzerland.'"
My husband, without looking up, said, "That's why I watch it."
I told him that was the same reason why I watched Men's diving.
